Fire Safety Inspector Instructor Reinstatement

Reinstatement requirements are determined by time elapsed since expiration.

To reinstate a certificate to teach the applicant must:

  • Previously have held a certificate, at level of certification sought that was in good standing at the time the certificate expired.
  • A certificate revoked by this state is not eligible for reinstatement.
  • In the preceding 7 years, must have been certified as a Firefighter for at least 5 years.

0-90 Days Since Expiration

  • Provide proof of CE completed during the certification cycle (cannot be completed after expiration date) and a completed reinstatement application.
  • Include a $75.00 application fee (check/money order to “Ohio Treasurer of State”).

90 Days to 6 Months Since Expiration

  • Pass the techniques exam (contact a Fire Charter Training Institution to schedule the examination).
  • After passing the techniques exam, submit a reinstatement application.

6 Months to 1 Year Since Expiration

  • Pass the techniques exam (contact a Fire Charter Training Institution to schedule the examination).
  • Complete 10 hours of supervised teaching under direct supervision of a certified Fire Safety Inspector Instructor Trainer and under the auspices of a Fire Charter Training Program Director.
  • Submit proof of completion of the above requirements along with a reinstatement application.

1 Year to 2 Years Since Expiration

  • Pass the techniques exam (contact a Fire Charter Training Institution to schedule the examination).
  • Complete 10 hours of supervised teaching under direct supervision of a certified Fire Safety Inspector Instructor Trainer and under the auspices of a Fire Charter Training Program Director.
  • Complete the 8-hour Fire Safety Inspector Training Module.
  • Submit proof of completion of the above requirements along with a reinstatement application.

More than 2 Years Since Expiration

  • Repeat the entire Fire Safety Inspector Instructor course of training and submit an initial application.
