EMS Assistant Instructor Reinstatement

Reinstatement requirements are determined by time elapsed since expiration. A $75.00 application fee (check/money order to “Ohio Treasurer of State”) is required with the reinstatement application.

NOTE: In addition to reinstatement requirements below, you must possess an active EMS certificate to practice OR hold a current Ohio license to practice as a registered nurse or physician assistant, which has been current in 3 of the last 5 years.

0-6 Months Since Expiration

  • Complete all renewal requirements for the last certification cycle

6 Months to 2 Years Since Expiration

  • Complete all renewal requirements for the last certification cycle
  • Complete the following within the preceding three years:
    • Pass the instructor knowledge exam at the level of certification (RN/PA at Medic level)
    • Pass the practical skills exam at the level of certification (RN/PA at Medic level)
  • Complete 8 hours of EMS-specific instruction
  • Complete 10 hours of supervised teaching in the presence of an EMS instructor at an EMS accredited  institution

2 Years or More Since Expiration

  • Not eligible for reinstatement; if you are certified in another state, you may qualify for reciprocity
