The revised curriculum and scope of practice rules have been final filed and will become effective on February 6, 2012. I have attached Chapters 1, 12, 15, 16 and 17 for your file. I have also attached a summary of the rule changes however it is your responsibility to read the entire rule in order to ensure your program is in compliance. Please note that you may begin to follow the revised initial training and refresher curricula with classes that begin after February 6, 2012. You must follow the revised initial training and refresher curricula with classes that begin after September 1, 2012.
Training programs following the EMT-Basic curriculum, OAC 4765-15-01, prior to September 1, 2012 must teach and test endotracheal intubation of a pulseless and apneic patient. Training programs following the EMT curriculum, OAC 4765-15-05, effective February 6, 2012 will no longer teach nor test endotracheal intubation of a pulseless and apneic patient. Advanced airway management inserting a extraglottic and dual-lumen devices on a pulseless and apneic patient will be included in the EMT curriculum. Endotracheal intubation of a pulseless and apneic patient will be removed from the EMT scope of practice effective January 1, 2013.
